What makes the story of Ghent and the Altarpiece/Van Eyck truly unique is not only the fact that after 600 year Van Eyck's masterpiece is still in its original location (St-Baafs cathedral) but also that you still can see, feel and touch the authentic, medieval landmarks and mansions in the historic city center Jan and Hubert Van Eyck must have frequented 600 years ago as there are the Borluut mansion, Graslei/Korenlei medieval harbour, Unesco Belfry, Pand (old dominican monastery), St. Nicolas church, Achtersikkel as well as the authentic area around the cathedral, Van Eyck most probably held his studio.

What makes it even more wonderful is that some of them are immortalized by Van Eyck in the Ghent-Altarpiece.
